Fritzøe Møller Larvik: Reference objects

The residents of the small southern Norwegian town of Larvik began revitalising an imposing industrial facility some twenty years ago. For Larvik’s inhabitants, this created new jobs and charming locations on the Fritzøe Mølle site, while a black PREFA aluminium façade provided a little local colour.

Black like larvikite, like liquorice, like fjords, like deep water and like the surface of the irregularly structured PREFA FX.12 façade panels or a PREFALZ façade system with a black P.10 colour surface? In the changing light of the coastal town of Larvik, black looks different with every passing hour. At dusk it becomes a golden brown, and just after the sun sets, it can even be a juniper blue, such as when it was used on the façade of the former Fritzøe Mølle industrial mill in Hammerdalen, in the centre of the small town of Larvik.

Several buildings on the north side were extended. These buildings were clad with dark-coloured Prefalz façade systems. The protruding corner standings and the lines of their shadows draw the observer’s gaze upwards. Contrary to the FX.12 façade panels, the Prefalz façade is not structured. A further contrast that bolsters the impression made by the architectural collage of the overall structure.
