Refuge d'Arlet Pyrenees National Park: Reference objects

Introduction

The renovation of the Arlet refuge at around 2,000 metres above sea level was a large-scale project. In addition to a thermal refurbishment including all interior remodelling work, the building envelope was re-roofed as well.

The exposed location required a particularly robust material that could withstand the most difficult conditions. PREFA rhomboid roof and façade tiles 44×44 made of aluminium convinced the architect and the team of the Pyrenees National Park with their numerous advantages:

  • The purchase price and the reduced processing time
  • The low weight, which was of particular relevance for the expensive transport by helicopter
  • The ease of handling
  • The robustness
  • The weather-resistance
  • The durability

When choosing the colour – P.10 oxide red - reference was made to the surrounding rocks as well as the soil. It is particularly important in nature reserves that buildings blend in well with the landscape.
