Roof drainage systems - suitable for every house and every roof
Whether a new build or renovation, whether carport, garden shed, detached house or apartment building, residential complex or large industrial building. Whether steep, flat or low-pitched roof, tiled roof, bitumen shingle roof, fibre cement panels, slate roof or other roof tiles. As part of the all-in-one system, the PREFA drainage system not only suits aluminium roofs, but can also be combined with practically all common roof materials*.
*Except copper roof
With a flat roof, for example, rainwater is safely drained off via the modern PREFA parapet outlet connector or a PREFA leader head in square or round design.
The benefits at a glance
Rust-proof and without heavy iron metals
The PREFA downpipe is made of aluminium, so it does not rust. In addition, the rainwater can be used without restriction, since no heavy metals enter the waste water through washout.
Recyclable
Aluminium can be recycled as often as desired without any loss of quality.
Lightweight
Thanks to the lightweight aluminium construction material, easy installation and cost-saving transport are possible.
Highly weather-resistant and long-lasting
The gutters and downpipes are produced from colour-coated aluminium coils. Thanks to the high-quality surface treatment in a coil-coating process, the paint layer remains malleable and highly resistant, even under extreme weather conditions.

Harmonious design or strong colour accents : The all-in-one roof drainage system offers many options.
Whether tone-in-tone or deliberately contrasting, the PREFA drainage system - consisting of gutters, pipes and accessory products - offers a great deal of design scope in combination with the roof and façade. Choose from our wide range standard colours.
Thanks to the tried and tested "P.10" surface finish, the coating remains functional and attractive even after many years. PREFA gutters as well as the downpipe are available in the following colours - of course with a 40-year material guarantee.

Notes
- The RAL values stated are merely approximate values (~), some of which may differ vastly from the original PREFA colour and, under certain circumstances, may not reflect the subjective perception of the colour.
- Above all for colour quality P.10, it is almost impossible to define values due to the surface structure. In addition, the PREFA Siding colours P.10 stone grey, P.10 sand brown, P.10 patina green, natural oak, patina grey, walnut and grey oak are based on natural colours made up of several different shades.
- Coils and metal sheets plain aluminium: The guarantee does not cover surface appearance alterations caused by processing and environmental influences. Follow the instructions.
- Metallic colours may vary in shade.

Tip from the experts: Sensible use of rainwater: Saving money and resources in the garden too.
The valuable rainwater does not have to seep away unused or be fed directly into the sewage system, it can also be used as lime-free watering water for the garden. The PREFA water collector or downpipe cleanout is used for this purpose: These divert the rainwater into the rain barrel.
Water collector: Commercially available garden hoses that divert the rainwater into a rain barrel, cistern, etc. can be connected toit. If the collection container is full, the water runs off in the downpipe and overflowing of the collection container is thus prevented. In winter, the connection can be closed with the cover included to winter-proof the rain barrel and thus prevent the collection container from freezing.
Downpipe cleanout: It can be opened or closed manually, depending on whether you want to drain rainwater into the rain barrel or not. The downpipe cleanout is also equipped with a removable leaf screen. Coarse debris can thus be intercepted and easily removed to prevent clogging and possible freezing of the pipes.
Please note: Rainwater flowing over certain roof and drainage materials (e.g. copper or zinc) should only be used to a limited extent. If you have large copper or zinc surfaces, you should check the rainwater to see if it is contaminated with heavy metals. Tar paper roofs with bitumen coatings could also be potentially harmful to plants, garden ponds, or the environment. It is best to obtain information from the manufacturer!
Extra strong: Downpipe in 1.6 mm material thickness: Extra weather-resistant and yet still elegant
With a length of almost three metres and made of 1.6 mm thick aluminium, this downpipe offers two decisive product advantages: Thanks to its particularly high resistance, it is ideal for installing in entrance or garden areas as it cannot get dented, for example by playing children, or by objects toppling over. Its length also presents visual advantage as no fasteners are required at eye level or in the direct field of vision. This functional detail creates an elegant impression, especially on modern detached houses as it allows the roof drainage system to fade discreetly into the background when tone-in-tone solutions are used to match the colour of the façade. Ask your PREFA installation company about the robust downpipe!
Whenever it’s to be particularly resistant
The downpipe with the greater thickness of 1.6 mm is also recommended for public areas. The more solid pipe is used in the lower section and the drain pipe in the standard version is used further up. Thanks to the same outer diameter, no visual difference can be observed.
Easy to clean and maintain: And the rainwater can drain away unhindered.
Storms with heavy rain and winds are becoming more and more frequent as has become increasingly apparent in recent years. The drainage system then not only has to cope with large amounts of water, but also with leaves and branches that are blown onto the roof and into the gutters.
Particularly after extreme weather events or also in autumn, it should be checked whether dirt is blocking the drainage of the rainwater gutters. PREFA offers the strainer (diameter 80–120) for the gutter outlet or the leaf screen for the downpipe cleanout. This integrated, removable sieve makes it easy to remove impurities. Otherwise, the water accumulated due to impurities is in danger of freezing and damaging the pipe. In any case, the rain barrel and rainwater collector should be emptied in autumn to prevent frost damage.
The correct dimension and installation: In this way, your new downpipes will stand up to any weather.
Suitable accessories for professional installation of the pipe clamps are available for the different types of façade – both for the rear-ventilated (PREFA) façade as well as for a composite thermal insulation system. The installation is done with pipe clamp dowels, mandrels and brackets or by means of wall mounting plates for timber façades, composite panels or the sidings. The pipe clamp can be used independently of the fastening. In this way, the fastening can be selected depending on the substrate. PREFA downpipes (∅ 80, ∅ 100, ∅ 120, ∅ 150) are supplied with protective film, which protects them from damage during transport and also during installation. (After installation, however, the protective film should be removed quickly so that it does not become brittle due to UV radiation and thus more difficult to remove).
Calculate the optimal pipe diameter
The correct dimensioning of the required rain gutter diameter as well as the diameter of the drain pipes is crucial. After all, large volumes of rainwater must not be allowed to back up or overflow. The correct calculation is no problem for PREFA installer partners; moreover, craftsmen can find helpful tools on the website and in the log-in area to ensure optimum dimensioning.
