Cultural Centre in Kapellen: Reference objects

Introduction

The Cultural Centre in Kapellen comprises two separate buildings, a flat, cylindrical disc and a tall cuboid that stands out a little from the overall flat structure. The disc is actually a space framework made from steel, with sides clad in aluminium or glass, whereas the second structure is built from prefabricated reinforced concrete.

The rhomboid motif – a square placed upright on one corner – was used by the architects repeatedly and in many variations for the new Cultural Centre. The façade and parts of the interior walls are covered with large-format PREFA rhomboids in 44 x 44 cm format, in Maya gold and P.10 black.
